1. I’m like a toddler. I play. I want to be encouraged, even when I haven’t worked hard enough. I work harder when that work becomes a pleasure.
2. Surviving is one thing. You can get through, you can white-knuckle. You can do the bare minimum. But there comes a time when life stops rewarding potential. If you want to participate in a certain level in anything, you cannot just turn up and be respected.
3. I had a child with my ex. We weren’t right together. In my head it was a lot to do with: I must be in a family. Being brave and saying ‘actually, I don’t think I’m in the right relationship’ terrified me.
